About the event

About the Retreat:

Poetry can be a powerful tool for healing. According to The National Association for Poetry Therapy, the benefits of poetry include increased self and interpersonal awareness, increased sense of validation in voicing one's truth, and an enhanced capacity to capture and reframe significant life stories. In this short poetry retreat, you will have an opportunity to engage poetry in a new way. Through reading, writing, experiencing and listening to words and images, we will go deeper into the heart of what matters to you. We will take a step back from critical and judge-mental thinking in order to reach a place of inquiry, curiosity and reflection about the words and images that emerge. This will be a time of both rest and creative flow, individually and collectively.

About Vance Goodman, Speaker and Facilitator:

Vance Goodman lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina and enjoys reading, writing, the outdoors, a bicycle and poetry. Vance attended seminary at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, TX and later became ordained while working as a chaplain in a pediatric hospital setting. Vance is a Quaker and spends plenty of time hiking, cycling, being quiet and writing poetry as spiritual practice. Vance has a volume of poetry published called "The Space We Hold," and one of the poems in this book may be shared during the retreat.
